The success of the City’s Group Violence Intervention strategy has prompted Mayor Jacob Frey to propose growing the program so that it can address gang violence in south Minneapolis.

Urban Youth Conservation program steers kids from gang life

A one year-old Minneapolis gang diversion project is struggling with success. Struggling because it is overwhelmed with young black men and teens who want to participate. The group is short of funds to help all of them. Urban Youth Conservation was founded by two long-time gang members who have recruited other former gang members to help convince young people to give up dangerous gang life.
